RedHawks Fall at No. 18 Cumberland

LEBANON, Tenn. – The Martin Methodist Women's Tennis team suffered a 7-2 defeat to No. 18 nationally-ranked Cumberland (Tenn.) Tuesday afternoon at the Tommy Gray Memorial Courts.

The team loss soured an otherwise impressive afternoon for RedHawk freshman Sina Albersmeier, who picked up a win with Miriam Sanchez at the No. 2 doubles position and then racked up a hard-fought, three-set victory at No. 3 singles.

Albersmeier and Sanchez were the lone doubles point on the day for the RedHawks, defeating the team of Marianela Landi and Ana Maria Collazos, 8-3. Singles action saw Albersmeier defeat Landi in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

The red-hot team of Michelle Blaha and Skylar McDonald, who had won their last five points at No. 1 doubles, suffered an 8-5 defeat to Ainhoa Grijo Garrido and Jessica Hernandez.

The RedHawks return to action this weekend for two matches at the Freed-Hardeman Invitational in Henderson, Tennessee. They will meet NCAA Division II squad Christian Brothers University at 10 a.m. and follow up with a 2 p.m. contest versus Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.).
